General Dentistry

Making up the majority of the 143,000 dentists practicing in the United States and Canada, general dentists diagnose, treat and manage the overall oral health care needs of their patients. These services often include gum care, root canals, fillings, cleanings, crowns, veneers, bridges and preventative education. Because general dentistry encompasses the oral health amenities for patients of all ages, general dentistry is often referred to as “family dentistry.” General dentists don’t have a specific specialty, contrary to orthodontists, oral surgeons, endodontists and others. General dentists study and provide services over a wide range of dental care, while specialists are trained in one specific topic or area of dentistry.
